Internships & Real-World Experiences

Our theater students are given an opportunity to participate in Flight Crew, an internship meant to support performances. The interns are the leads for the event, running the lights, sound, recording, setting up the space, and communicating with the client to ensure all of their needs are met . Through our various partnerships (AVANT Acoustics, What if Puppets, Midwest Trust Center, UMKC, KU Lied Center, ArtsKC, Belvoir Winery, William Jewell College, Hollis/Miller Architects, LTN, and more), we have established a rapport with organizations that provide our students real-world experiences, ranging from costume design in KC theater houses to tech work on open heart surgery Zoom calls in California.

Bringing Arts to the People!

Visual Art has to be shared with communities. Currently, each art teacher contributes to the Sunshine Gallery in the District Administration building, as well as their individual school gallery, and a Citywide Art show hosted by the Liberty Arts Commision. Additional Art galleries include Woodneath Library and Belvoir Winery, where students can sell their artwork for commission. Students have also been selected by the City of Liberty to have their art projects displayed at various parks throughout the city.

Continue to shine at the state level through MMEA, which includes more than 3,000 music educators. Each year, through a highly-competitive selection process, students are chosen to perform at the annual MMEA conference in Osage Beach. Having a group selected is regarded as a pinnacle of one's career. Additionally, students individually compete from all over Missouri to perform in the Children’s Choir, All State Choir, Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, & the Collective. We are proud to have had each discipline and every grade level represented multiple times on stages of the MMEA State Conference. Liberty also has representatives on the MMEA leadership team as district directors, regional directors, & even presidents.

We are proud to announce that the South Valley Middle School Treble Choir, under the direction of Jeannie Weissenborn, has been chosen as one of the 2026 Performing Ensembles.

Students engage in multiple artistic disciplines—including theater, music, visual arts, and design—while working together to create and perform an original, student-driven production. Led by professional teaching artists and supported by high school interns gaining real-world experience, the program empowers students to take ownership of the creative process from concept to performance. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or designing the visual elements, every participant plays a key role in bringing the final show to life.
